1200 DVT Big Flat Spot At 7k Rpm

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Jackstraw, Aug 16, 2018.

  1. Big flat spot on the way home tonight, as soon as I hit 7k rpm it stopped pulling. It felt like a 4 cylinder bike running on 3.
It's just had its 3 year, 8k service, save me hunting it out does anyone know offhand if the plugs get changed?
    Thanks

  2. bit high in revs maybe but if you have the standard system its worth checking the flapper valve is working correctly

  3. Dont the NHS check your flapper valve?

  4. After my recent experience, you're lucky if they even know what it is....

  5. They couldn't find your flapper valve?????

  6. Thanks Bradders
Whipped the can off and found the valve was quite stiff to turn so that is quite possibly the issue. Good call.

I've squirted some penetrating oil at the top and bottom of the 60mm shaft that holds the flap and shall wiggle it free tonight

Assuming that it does free up is it sufficient to wipe some Copper Ease around the two ends of the shaft - pushing it into the ends as much as possible - obviously ideally I would dismantle properly but I cannot extract the shaft without removing the flap itself.

  7. Either lock it open or remove it matey. Its easy to do and stops any problems :)

  8. Get rid of it

    More grief than its worth

I've already removed mine from my 1260!

  9. When mine stuck closed under warranty , a few months ago the dealer (Riders) just removed it.

  10. Got mine replaced under warranty meant they replace the whole cat ! Or if out of warranty get a eliminator which plugs into the flapper valve electrics and tells the ecu the valve is open so should throw up a fault light and you can rove the valve.

  12. That was a really clear explanation Bradders even more so with the pics. However I don't want to wedge it open as my local track have a strict noise limits and I don't think I will get through them with the flap open

Freed up the flapper valve by a mix of penetrating oil and a lot of wiggling. Pushed some copper ease around the ends of the shaft and its moving freely. Shall regrease once or twice a year. Sorted.

  13. Cool. Depends on what revs they test at: its fully open at about 4500-5000 revs anyway, so its only low down its a bit noisier :upyeah:

  14. I can't see it being to loud bradders, even with the flap gone. I would have thought all the baffling is done by the cat, and the bloody flappy valve thing is only there for stricter government imposed noise limits just in case. Don't think I've been to a circuit that's been that strict on noise ?

  15. Castle Combe state its too loud to pass standard. And tbh my arrow can without baffle is quieter than the std one IMHO. Multi is a loud bike at 6k plus

So depends on the limit: 98 very doubtful; 102 possibly; 105 no problem

  16. According to their website, their noise limit is 100dbA out on track and 87dbA drive by, whatever that means ?

  17. Ar 3/4 revs. Multi probably 108 by then! Mine passed, just 102 at oulton
