1200 DVT Screen Advice Needed.

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Sam1199, May 15, 2019.

  1. The Mrs is telling me that the wind is whipping over the screen, then over me and smacking her in the head and shoulders. Anything over 60mph is hard work for her, just about ripping her head off.

I put on a Puig sports screen as it was less buffetting for me but when I raise the screen it worse.
We’ll check it today. Mirrors could have something to do with buffeting.

I know there are screen threads but haven’t seen screen/ pillion threads.

    Anyone found a solution?

  2. Try a deflector, you can adjust it until you get a better airflow. Might not look pretty but it will help with and buffeting from the rear!

I use the Wunderlich one on the standard screen:

Ducati Manchester have the Touratech one at half price

If you are near Surrey you can borrow mine to try first if you want to...

  3. After breaking my OE screen I replaced it with an MRA screen. It was a noticeable improvement on the original and cheaper too. It has a deflector which seems to work, so if not a complete screen maybe one of the add-ons Chris has suggested is worth a go. If I remember right the MRA screen was about £85.

  4. I am suffering badly with screen buffeting, and to a lesser extent so is my pillion. If I ride with no screen it is great, nice clean air and the Mr's loves it too, only issue is it doesn't look very good!

I currently have a small Powerbronze screen fitted but I am still getting a lot of noise (which has left both our ears ringing!) though no double vision like I was with the oem screen! I'm going to cut it down an inch and hopefully that'll do it as the turbulent wind seems to be hitting me exactly on the tops of my shoulders.

I will add that both my old Arai and AGv helmets are quieter than my new Shoei NXR was a surprise.

See my thread here for more info

  5. There is no clear cut answer to this as there are so many variables but having recently fitted the ICONIC screen spacers to my multi 1260S touring screen it has made a big and positive difference to noise and buffeting - could be worth a try and cheaper than new screens.

On a recent trip to the Ardennes the motorway slog was made tolerable with the screen two notches up and then for the twisty sections the screen was right down for visibility and speeds were more varied in any case. It was better for me solo so it should also have a positive impact on the pillion as well.

  6. The difference when riding along between stood up with head in free air and sat down with turbulence off the bike is huge.
The standard screen on any setting is terrible in our experience. A PP style short screen works for us.

If you want clear air then you could try the CalSci screens. They look huge and not exactly stylish but they really do the job. Personally I don't like the look of the screen, so we stick with the PP carbon style one. Its raised half way to protect my satnav mount, otherwise I would have it all the way down.

  7. Get the Mrs to ride.

  8. Goes to show its not a set thing this buffeting as both muself and the Mrs commented on our recent tour of Scotland how much better the buffeting/turbulance is on the Multi compared to the GSA I had previous, either that or the GSA is Sooooooooo bad anything seems good
I use the std screen on its lowest setting, the only mod is Jamie's spacers

  9. Whilst this is the same as my set-up, after trying a few alternatives, it's still net great TBH. Bearable and on longer faster motorway and autoroute trips I'll have the screen as high as it'll go. 450 odd mile day back from the Ardennes last month and got back feeling pretty fresh, a bit saddle sore though. Now have Touratech rider and pillion comfort seats fitted and off to Northern Italy in the morning. Girlfriend meeting me out there and joining the tour for 5 days. She'll be the acid test on pillion comfort...

  10. Let me know.

  11. Use ear plugs, no doubt about it.

  12. I met Jamie a few weeks ago and said I’d buy some spacers but didn’t get round to it. Damn.

    I’ll have to order some.

The short screen certainly seems the way to go. Might experiment with taking the screen off altogether if I can find somewhere to stow it en route.

  13. I had a CalSci screen, damn it was HUGE, totally still air but you looked through the screen and it felt really close to you

  14. I've always worn earplugs throughout my riding life. Never had an issue like I have with the Multistrada though.

  15. The Puig Sports Screen seems to be a good compromise between protection/buffeting/noise/passenger comfort
80mm shorter than a std screen, I’m 6ft2 wear earplugs and seems to do the job, 30,000 miles a year on various bikes, maybe I’m just immune now
