British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. There was never meant to be a defined number on immigration or targets. Open door policy meant that we had no choice in who came in, certainly in relation to europe.

when we are able to control our own migration, when can custom fit it dependent on our need, think of it more like an employment agency. We have a indigenous skills shortfall say in area X, we can advertise externally to fill that shortfall.

This gives us a great ability for when automation hits peak before a.i. in that we can go up one year, down the next and also allows companies to plan in advance.

fixed immigration targets remove flexibility for the host nation

  2. Noobie you are funny.
Do you really think the UK Government takes immigration seriously? Its just a Brexit football. Many on here will have watched recent documentary showing how easy it is to enter the UK illegally. People have been entering the country for years unchecked, tip of the iceberg. These people do not have passports and are not EU citizens.
Conservatives have been in for, not sure, ten or eleven years now. Its on their watch.
Meanwhile we have employed EU nationals to fill vacancies here, if required. Sounds very like the same system with new clothes. More political shape shifting to justify Brexit, but continue doing what they were already doing.

  3. I think you've been living in France too long JB. Uncontrolled as well as illegal migration has always been a concern, even well before brexit so your brexit excuse holds no ground. It also shows your vision is varied wrong direction

Yes I did watch the documentary, no immigration system will ever be 100% airtight but that is a poor excuse for doing sweet fa.

The eu nationals that are here are more than welcome, as it should be. But as they left their own country, that created shortfalls in their own countries, poland for us is the most obvious. To fill those gaps, they took in many from non eu countries, particularly from Russia, Ukraine and believe it or not illegal migrants from North Korea, On this google is your friend. Once again showing immigration is more than just about brexit and more than just the U.K. being worried about it.

I will add, before brexit even happened, Germany was warned, do not bring in 1.5 million from the middle east, even more so because once in the middle of shengen, they can go anywhere they like. Germany did not listen and so began the undermining of the eu by Germanies and the eu's own actions by not listening to it's member states.

If the system can now be like the australian one that will be implemented once I feel the tories get their majority back in the house, then it's a step in the right direction.

There is nothing wrong at all with a nation wanting to have an immigration system that it can control itself to reduce illegal immigration but more importantly, match those we let in, to the areas we have a shortfall skills in.

  4. Now Noob you know the Tories have been chanting immigratition targets since 2008!

"Immigration levels would be capped every year and be limited to “tens of thousands” more than the numbers departing to live abroad, under a Conservative government,
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/po...tion-will-be-capped-at-tens-of-thousands.html

"Theresa May has promised to bring net migration below 100,000 a year if she wins the general election, embracing the contentious target that the Conservatives have failed to hit in their last seven years in government.
    https://www.ft.com/content/8d651a84-33d9-11e7-99bd-13beb0903fa3

The government is "completely committed" to its target of reducing net immigration to tens of thousands of people, but the move "will take some time", Home Secretary Amber Rudd has said.

    Are you a FAKE Tory?

  5. I know and I've said many times, fixed targets do not work. That's one of the reasons I voted for brexit so we could match our immigration to our own skills shortages.

Two points on this if I may

It is possible to vote for a party and not agree with every policy

It is also possible, like in the trump and brexit thread to say, okay, you don't like what we have, but what do YOU think could make things better. So far the only other options put forward have just been noisy gumflappers who have offered nothing at all other than we lost and we no likee.

On the fake part, Jez, you are supporting a grandad wanting to take us back to the winter of our discontent from 78-79 whilst telling you he supports modernisation in 2019

I see fakery all right :D

  6. How about that ^^^^ point?

For a self proclaimed Tory to be unaware of the signature policy of the last ten years does raise some doubts as to their knowledge and commitment! Now it is of course possible & reasonable to vote for a party and not agree with every policy. Its odd to claim the policy never existed.

Theres a lot of Grandads about here and in parliaments around the world. I don't see anything unusual in that.

  7. I just answered on that point I'm puzzled why you missed it...i'll repeat it again, i'm not sure you will find anywhere on this forum where I have said I am a self proclaimed tory , are you having a cathy newman moment again?

I know and I've said many times, fixed targets do not work. That's one of the reasons I voted for brexit so we could match our immigration to our own skills shortages.

  8. Alright Noob, you're not a Tory - point noted.

You do accept that the Tories for the last decade have had immigration targets?

  9. Of course, that's why I noticed them and have said in here for the last few years, they do not work

  11. Do you think Labour are delaying appointing a new deputy to replace Tom Watson, and waiting to see if Jeremcy will lose the election, step down and the new leader can pick their own deputy?

  12. I think they are changing the rules to have two assistant leaders/ deputies; one male and one female. Anyhow, the leadership positions are voted into place by the members and there isn't much time for that right now.
