Monster 2002 620 Troubleshooting - Solved

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Mathias Madsen, Jan 10, 2021.

  1. Hi guys,
Just started troubleshooting my bike and maybe you have some tips or links for me:
Bought it recently and it ran fine. On my first ride it died on me.
There's plenty of battery and it cranks (Although a bit slow but I don't know if that's normal)
It has fuel and the pump runs when turning on the ignition.
The belts seem to be nice and tight and the markings are in place (Hasn't skipped a tooth)
There's no spark and the sparkplugs are dry so I'm thinking I have sensor/computer problem.

Just got hold of a Haynes manual now so studying that now.
    Any ideas ?

  2. Sounds like a failed crank sensor. Do you know if the pump is running while turning on the starter?

  3. yes, silly me, forgot to add this time:-

and never got a cigar off @West Cork Paul either ;)

different bike, but might be useful:-

  4. I'm not sure; what sort of plug should I be looking for and where?
The bike ran fine and broke down on me so no "changes (good or bad) have been made"

  5. The pump runs with ignition on - will try and listen when cranking next time.
Yes; I'm thinking sensor too. Reading the Haynes manual now.

  6. I don't know your bike but was hoping you could access codes via main instrument display. As said, crank sensor is a good one to start with, and it doesn't have to have failed necessarily, it could be poor connection at the the connector or a break somewhere.

  7. Is there a way to check the timing sensor as an amateur? Manual refers to a dealer with a Mathesis tester... (I AM an electrical engineer)

  9. Sensor pulled off bike. Will test tomorrow.

  10. Try a fresh ignition relay. Always worth a go.

  13. Worth going with Nelly' suggestion, happened to me many years ago first day out on my 998.Quick and easy to try and shouldn't cost too much either.

  14. Worth trying as a relay is pretty cheap, but given that the pump primes as ignition on the relay is unlikely to be the issue.

  15. As do I here Chris, as do I:upyeah:

  18. Yes; tested the sensor on Monday and it does not respond to my spanner so ordered this cheap alternative to the quite expensive Bosch one - it should work according to other Danish Duc-enthusiasts.
