Belt Frequency App/download

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by RickyX, Feb 2, 2021.

  1. Hi all,
Been asked many times before I’m sure....

Doing the belts on my M1100 (and then my 749) and found my old laptop has died (with the frequency app thingy on it.

Can somebody give me a link to a download for either a Windows 10 laptop or android phone app so I can check my belt belt tension please.

    Cheers
    RX

  2. For Android look on Google Play for Gates Carbon Drive. Works a treat.

  5. Managed to get the old W7 laptop working. Fired up the old ducatidiag program and used that.
I cross checked it against the Gates Carbon Drive app on android. Both appeared to record the same frequencies, give or take.
The laptop with remote mic was easier to use though as one doesn’t need to stuff a big phone into the belt area, just a tiny remote mic.

  7. +1 for the Gates carbon drive app, dead easy to use & pretty accurate - I double checked it with the one my local dealer uses, jobsa guddun.

  8. thanks for the info

  9. I've been trying today to get the gates App to work without success.
And now have very sore fingers.

It's changed recently and the new version has far less functionality, although it should still do the job.

Basically it won't pick up the sound from the belt reliably on any of 3 different phones I've tried.
Possibly 1 try in around 10 or 15 is successful, and they vary massively.
Even though I do wait for it to reset between trys.
Just trying the horizontal belt the phones Mics were right beside the belt.

Yet it will pick up the sound of me talking from @18" away and show varying frequency.

There is no background noise in my workshop, and I even turned off the Fluorescent lights in case they were effecting it.

Clicking my fingers beside the phone mic did not work on any of the phones, and I have made sure the App had permission to use the Mic in the phone settings

    Nasher.

  10. Which part of the belt do you twang/measure? I've only done the 2-valve Allen-key-on-the-roller method...

  11. @Sev mentioned he had had problems with the latest version of the Gates app.
Perhaps you could download the ducatidiag software (which I managed to do after I got my old laptop working again)?

  12. Thanks Sev, glad it's not just me.
I'd not found n-tuner, so will download it.

Keith_P, the measurement is taken on the longest run of the belt.

RickyX, any idea where to download the software from?

    Nasher.

Are you using the free version of n-track? Or the $7.99 Pro version?

I can get the needle option page to react to me clicking my fingers with a bar at the top of the page, but the meter and Hz readout is inactive.

    Nasher.

  14. Thanks RickyX.

I already have the JPDiag software for resetting the TPS etc.

The firewall at work won't let me access your link, so will have a look later to see if it's the same thing.
I'd just need a Mic for my Laptop.

    Nasher.

  15. @Nasher I recommend a clip on type microphone for your purpose. Enables clipping to part of the engine casting to enable positioning of the microphone very close to the belt for perfect 'twanging'
I got mine from eBay for 99p Inc p&p.
    Works a treat! PXL_20210426_112507258.jpg PXL_20210426_112507258.jpg

  16. Yep Crystaljohn, I think that's my issue.

I've now discovered that I can get the n-track 'needle' option to work with a longer sound, and Carbon drive is the same, so it must be the Mic on my phone not reacting quick enough, although that could carry through to an external Mic.

On the plus side, I've discovered I can Humm at 99Hz :bucktooth:

    Nasher.

  17. Top tip to prevent blisters on your twanging finger. A few drops of super glue on your finger, strategically placed to build up a pad. Comes off after a few immersions in water.

  18. I was doing the belts on a 1200MTS last week and had the same problem and ended up with a blister on my thumb. The old app worked well but the new version is crap. I was considering using a guitar plectrum to pluck the belts to save my thumb.
