Just finished installing Exact-Start cables to my 916 and have to say i'm very pleased with the results! I've owned the bike about 17 years and it's always been a lazy starter. The difference after fitting the cables is huge. Just effortless starting hot or cold.

I spent a very long time cleaning all the connections, which is key if you are going to fully benefit from this upgrade.

All in all i'm very pleased and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this modification. I only wish I had done it years ago..

  2. Great to hear! I am picking up a 2002 748s in Titanium Grey tomorrow and this is one of the first things I want to do. How was the install?

  3. They were simple to install. The instructions they came with were very clear and only took about an hour to fit

  5. Fitted them on my last 3 Ducati’s. They do make a good difference.

  6. Just ordered tonight - obviously you cleaned the terminals they connect to , but with what?

  7. It’s in the kit, can’t recall what it’s called but there should be a sachet of it, . There was in my kit for my Hyper.

  8. I've got a theory about our sluggish starters. It comes from being an electronics hound and goes like this: A sluggish starter isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as it picks up after a second or so. If there is a small amount of resistance in the return from starter to battery through the starter body and engine casing and associated bolts (v.small but a bit more than that of a big fat cable going directly from battery -ve to the starter) then it potentially protects the starter and relay contacts from a huge stall current surge at the moment of contact. It means that the starter sees a reduced voltage until it begins to turn, at which point the current demand falls and the available voltage picks up. My mate once fitted a big fat ground cable to his bike. When he attempted to start it after a winter lay-up there was an almighty bang. The starter went open circuit. Curiously, after rolling the bike back and forth in gear a few times the fault cleared, as though a brush had been dislodged and then re-seated. Put me off doing the same though.

I like the slow start of a big Ducati twin. I've embraced it. Doesn't matter if it's reluctant to get out of bed - so am I.

  9. Dielectic compound is what it’s called.

  10. Granted, some problems are caused by poor Italian electronics! The 916/996/748 bikes were floored from the get go by a poor starter ratio, the 749/999 starter ratio will kick your bike over so much better it’s what I have on mine
