E10 Fuel - Ms1100s

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by boski69, Oct 5, 2021.

  1. Hi all, now that the dreaded E10 has been forced upon us, what can I do to prevent any problems with fuel lines etc?
Running on Shell/ Esso E5 at present but would like a more permanent fix.
I can't believe these pre 2010 models have been made obsolete overnight (according to the list on gov.uk)

    Any info gratefully received, Brian.

  2. Screenshot_20211005-204552_Chrome.jpg Halfords are now stocking Wynns and Millers E10 Fuel treatments. The Wynns comes in a multi dose bottle, handy for multi day trips on the bike.

  3. E5 was already causing problems with some older rubber hoses. You should change everything inside the tank to ethanol proof submersible anyway. Other than that nothing will happen. The US for example had E10 for years. Yes, if you leave the same fuel in the tank for 2 years the ethanol will attract some moisture and it can cause problems but why would you do that. For normal use E10 is fine. Consumption will go up marginally but that is it. If you keep fuel in your tank for a long time use some additive. I personally use stabil marine 360 for winter storage so I don't have to drain the tanks completely. I did this with E5 too. I never had fuel go stale, had water or anything else unwanted in the tank. The only real issue is with some plastic fuel tanks. MV Agusta had some bad problems with swelling tanks, paint bubbling etc caused by ethanol.

  4. just stick to super

  5. Many thanks for the replies.
The bike doesn't do a lot of miles so the price of Super is not an issue, as long as it is available.
Over winter I will replace the hoses with ethanol proof items and in the meantime get some sort of additive.
    All the best, Brian.
