Grey Paint Code

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by RAStubbs, Jan 27, 2022.

  1. Got offered another ie (couldn't say no) which I'm in the process of recommissioning. It's a 2002 900SS ie in the "Senna" colour scheme, imported from Japan. All original but it wants a bit of touching up in a couple of places and I'm struggling a bit to get paint because the SS isn't listed in this colour. Does anyone know if it's the same "Senna Grey" colour that some 2002 Monsters were painted in? Code is DUC37 - it looks right but I don't want to order a tin and find it completely wrong.

  2. This thread seems to have the answer.

  3. Thanks, I did read that thread before I posted. It doesn't answer my question I'm afraid - I know it's painted Senna grey, but I don't know if that Senna grey is the same as that on the 2002 Monster, or if it is code DUC37. The issue is that I can easily get DUC37 in a rattle can, but it is listed for a 2002 Monster, not a 2002 900SS. I'm pretty sure it will be the same, but given how many reds there are it's not a certainty.

Has anyone here actually got one, and bought paint for it? Long shot I know; apparently there were only 20 imported to the UK. Failing that, any way to convert DUC37 into a PPG paint code? Or is there a paint code sticker I can look for? Or should I just shell out the £12 or whatever and stop being tight?

I know what colour the red one is now though :)

  4. Different tack - I've found pictures of the 2002 Monster 900 (the one with the paint code) and the 2003 on Monster 1000S (the one in the colour chart) and compared them to the picture of mine and I'm pretty sure they're all the same colour. So I'm going to buy the paint, and save wasting any more of your time.

I'll report back if it matches or not...

  5. Might it be simpler to take a, or a couple of, panels/tank to a colour matching paint supplier, that way you may avoid having the right paint code, but no compensation for any sun-fade?

  6. That would be a very sensible idea, if only I didn't live in the middle of nowhere. There are many advantages in living amongst the hills of rural mid Wales, but access to automotive trade suppliers isn't one of them. In fact, it's the only thing I've missed about the Midlands since moving here 35 years ago.

Nonetheless, I might end up doing just that if the can doesn't match, so thanks for reminding me that it's possible - I had forgotten that it's a thing.
