I only use super unleaded in my car and bike, apart from the slight drop in calorific value I want to use the best fuel (as well as oil), the other concern is the increased worry with having a steel fuel tank. I did see a mention in MCN of bikes beginning to show concerning fuel tank rust levels.
Best of the best for all bikes, so Super/E5 run through a sieve and then Creosote and swamp oil for the A to B car thing.
I run super in everything that needs it. Aka anything with a knock sensor which is everything I own currently tbf. Ethanol is nasty stuff and actually burns up to 30% faster. Not to mentioned the known issues with seals, rubbers etc. Esso is one of the only fuel suppliers in the U.K. that still has some ethanol free fuel I am led to believe fyi. Even my VW transporter and Golf Gtd get super diesel for the cleaning properties. I have witnessed with my own eyes the effects of crap diesel on the transporter motors.
Hello. The links below from other threads on this Forum covering Ethanol in fuel might help. Also, I'm sure a search will find more information. Good luck, Tom. PS. Esso Synergy Supreme Plus may now contain Ethanol up to 5%, depending on where in the UK it is sourced. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/e10-fuel-from-september.84434/page-4#post-1886190 https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threa...toring-for-several-months.88000/#post-1884297
I only ride my KTM which can be run on e10 and my oil burner bog standard pump oil. My old Mini Cooper S got super unleaded. As Advs stated you get less mpg from e10, there’s a you tube clip with the presenter stating just how badly his car did running on e10. TBH because I’m riding for fun the economy doesn’t actually bother me as I’m getting 50mpg anyway, I might be more concerned at my mates burn rate of 30 mpg.
I recently swapped the KTM 990 ADV to Super after suffering from a persistent stalling issue, seems to have cured it. Go figure, as the yanks say, it had been bugging me for years and now it's away!
It depends where you fill up. When I was in Scotland, I only saw E10. I buy E5 if I can, but in any event, I always add an ethanol stabiliser when the bike is back home and parked up, which not only keeps the fuel in grade - it also prevents any ethanol corrosion damage.
My bikes only get E5. The car mostly gets E5 too, though if there's no Esso staion and I'm low I splash some of the crap stuff in as a anti walk home measure.
Super in the bike (when I had one) and regular in the car, I drive like Morgan Freeman anyway so wouldn’t appreciate the benefit and any troubles will probably be the next owners?
Generally E5 wherever possible, especially in my wife's Mini Cooper S. My 3-series BMW does run noticeably better on E5 than E10, so I stick with E5 in that too if I can. The bike currently has half a tank of E10, since it's been idle in late September, which as soon as I get out on it, will be replenished with E5.
I try to find E5 if I can, but mainly because of all the fuels I've used and all the times I've tried super unleaded etc, the only time I've noticed an actual running difference was on my F3 800 where you could tell it ran noticeably 'snappier' on E10 in terms of throttle transitions etc.
E5 in Stag, BM and Ducati. Also just bought eldest boy his first car, Mini Cooper so this will be E5 also
