1200 Side Stand

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Jon Browne, Jul 9, 2022.

  1. Hi again all.
The Multistrada seems to lean really far over on the side stand. Is this normal for a Multistrada? It may be that the stand is too short. If that is the case, does anybody know if you can get longer stands. I’ve taken a look with the stand up but there doesn’t appear to be anything untoward there. Is there an adjustment that can be made?

  2. Nope, that's how it is. Are you vertically challenged? Maybe some midget owned the bike before you and shortened the stand. Pics will help.

  3. No, it does have a good lean angle to it compared to many others. The tyre profile can make a noticable difference to.

There was a few side stand bolts that bent or snapped and even worse leaning was a symptom so it's worth checking the bolt is good.

The stand is just steel tube so it would be relatively easy to get it cut and some more material added. There is an old thread on here you could check: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/multistrada-1200s-leaning-angle-on-side-stand.46226/

  4. Take a look at the side stand securing bolt. There was a thread where a member was machining some better quality ones. The bolt can wear or fracture, making the Multi lean lots more.
But yes, they do lean over.

  5. Not particularly short. It just doesn’t look safe leaning so much.

  6. Thanks for the reply. It seems that the stand is too far forward. If that’s how they are then I’ll just have to live with it.

  7. That looks normal to me.

  8. OK. Thanks for the reply messes

  9. You can easily add an Foot extender pad to the bottom of the side stand that gives more area to spread the load and adds a bit of length as well.

  10. Just a quick one, check the play in the stand when tucked up. The lugs can splay open, you can simple close up in a vice if play.

  11. PS. I wouldn't suggest the side stand with luggage on. The lugs bend easy.

  12. Looks normal to me, on my MS I’d nearly give myself a hernia standing the bike upright sometimes if it was fully loaded (fuel, luggage), I’m not the tallest of people though at 5’8”

may return to a MS one day but will be looking for a 2015> I hear they are more accommodating for the short arses amongst us than the earlier models

  13. With 1200S models you can play with suspension settings: enduro setting lift bike and urban setting lower it .

  14. Loaded with luggage and setup for rider and passenger in touring mode my 1260s can lean quite precariously, especially given a little camber on the road. A side stand foot is on the shopping list before my next trip.

  15. Thanks for the replies everyone. I’ve taken a look and there is a bit of play around the top, as in the video that messes put on here. I took the bolt out and, whilst worn a bit, there is no play in it, just the jaws. I’ve ordered a stand pad which should give it a bit more length to see what that will do. Ultimately, I may well get an extra piece welded in to make it slightly longer.
