I wonder what the rating of that towbar was, it looks very thin walled RHS. Both mine are very different to that, the receiver/Ball hitch are bolted with two M16 bolts to a piece of 10mm thick bar.
I'm considering getting one of these now, but I can’t find any info about whether the trailer can be towed safely when empty, ie: without a bike loaded. The reason I need to know this is because my motorhome is parked on the road and although I have use of a garage it’s not very close to where I park it. Hence, I would want to leave the trailer permanently attached to the back of the motorhome rather than breaking it down and storing it away between uses. Any info about that would be gratefully received. Thanks
Can you lock that cantilever mechanism to eliminate the up/down movement and then leave everything in situ, minus the wheels? Thanks
No pretty sure you can’t, it’s been about 6 years since I sold mine, so my memory a little hazy. I certainly would not use or buy another one, unless it was a small bike / scooter and the van / motorhome did not have chassis extensions
My mate has a very similar rig to this. But he says it drives like a right shitter with the rear compartment loaded. You can see how it will impact steering and make it all ‘floaty’
i had to google that. a bit before my time... they rode what looks a lil like a roller so, here we go. . the only Rolls Royce i would consider.
I saw this set up at a campsite in France a while back. It seemed to work well, but I don’t think the setup would cope with a much heavier bike. Carrying weight at the back end can really unstabilise the vehicle.
The bike I intend to carry is a 2 stroke dirt bike which only weighs 96kg, but my motorhome has a huge rear overhang, so any kind of unsupported mass hung off the back end like that would be magnified. In fact, it would take so much weight off the front wheels, that I’d probably be able to wheelie it!
What motorhome do you have ? Mine was 7.3m with a big rear overhang, I think the chassis extensions were over 1m. I ended up using a normal trailer and never had any issues, just need to think ahead and avoid reversing. But with a normal trailer and even a 250 kilo bike you just unhitch it and push it. I had a reversing camera on the MH and found I could do straightforward reverses anyway, after a little practice

It’s a 1990 Transit diesel Travelhome, aka “The SuperSonic Shed” I found an Easylift Hydra Trail on the Bay of E for £900, ie: less than half price, so I decided to risk it for a biscuit and if I don’t get on with it I’ll just resell it. That’s probably got a proper strong old towbar so with a light bike it’ll probably work fine. Just make sure the castor bearings are greased well and properly tensioned
Please could I ask a favour of either/both of you? My MH was in storage and out of MOT until yesterday so I'm only just getting round to fitting and trying out my secondhand Hydra Trail. However, it didn't come with any instructions, there don't seem to be any posted online and although there are quite a few videos on You Tube, I can't work out how it attaches to the MH towing apparatus. In addition to the platform, wheels and the pantograph/cantilever, I received a box of the bits shown below. As you can see, there are two brackets - one which looks as if it replaces the tow ball (A) and another one which looks as if it goes over the tow ball (B). After posting the photo I realised that "B" is the wrong way up, so I have taken another pic which shows the other side. Both cannot be fitted at the same time so which one should I use? If either of you could take a pic of the instructions and post them here that would be amazing. Thanks in advance
