Roller Garage Door Service

  1. I have an electric roller garage door. It’s started to stop when I try to lower it from fully open. It drops about six inches then winds back up to open. I cannot look at it myself as my shoulder is so broken I can’t really lift my arm up, so I need a repair guy.
I’ve googled it locally and plenty of same day emergency services etc. It’s difficult to chose and I have no idea on cost.
So. My question is, how much roughly is a double garage roller shutter door service normally?
I’m based down south which will increase the price no doubt!

  2. There should be a reset procedure

  3. When mine plays up it’s generally a sign the battery in the receiver is on its way out
    Have you checked it?

  4. I dont use the fob ever. I use the main unit which is mains powered.
After a few attempts it does close but I’m worried its going to stick open.
I have read the manual and can’t see any reset procedures.

  5. I chased issues with one of mine recently, it could be track alignment or even a loss of tension in the spring, things you can diy but not with an injured shoulder unfortunately.

  6. The chap that came to install my Garolla door was an independent, not a retained employee. You may find you have someone local in a similar position. Andy

  7. What make door and is there a sensor on the door edge - wireless

I just had a new Door installed that has a wireless safety edge - basically small grey box with batteries on the bottom of the door.

During the install they told me - WHEN the door fails to close and keeps opening - its HIGHLY likely the battery in the sensor is faulty.

So if you have that - try that.

Then also some of the newer doors monitor the current to close and open - could be that needs tweaking.

But you need the controller handbook to tell you how.

Can not help with anyone in your area sorry - but as mentioned above - MOST of the big door firms use smaller independents to do the Install.

So look at Garage Door Suppliers in your area and give a call around.

  8. It’s a Birkdale and does have the sensor. I changed the batteries a few months ago and there is no warning light saying they are low but I will change them again to be sure. Thanks.

  9. The batteries look like AA - but are not they are higher voltage (At Least in mine) Somfey Control

  10. Changed them. No different.

  11. OK - but the correct battery?

  12. Assume the installer didn't leave a manual winder for you to use in such circumstances?

  13. I do have a manual winder for it. Never had to use it and understand that the power must be off before using it. Last resort!!

  14. Garolla installation is a franchise.

  15. Silly question, you have checked that both sensors are unobstructed?

My parents have had an electric garage door fitted, if the sensor is blocked, it will stop the closing, and fully open it again

  16. Update. I’ve spoken to the maintenance guys. It’s the sensor and if they are mounted on bottom rail of the door they often give trouble. Cure? New control system, hardwired rather than radio signal. Cost c500 fitted. Ouch. I will persevere as I am for now.

  17. Same problem with mine right now, the sun shining on the house triggers the sensors and it reopens. I can override by holding the button on the wall panel but it’s a pain in the arse going back in and out the front door

  18. Assuming I’m reading that correctly, you’ve got to love a tradesman who can diagnose a problem over the phone.

I had a similar issue, but mine was solved with a new battery and a hard reset. But I now get it serviced annually for £140. Which is a lot for what he appears to do, but I get a free call out included if anything goes wrong.
