Folks, I've got a 998 in the garage that hasn't moved for while now. Nothing sinister, just got zero interest in it/motorbikes in general. Was hoping that it would rekindle, but it simply hasn't after a few years of not riding. A few years back I had three bikes, I've sold two but the 998 remains. So, after 14 years of ownership I'm leaning towards letting the bike go. NOT confirmed so not a for sale post hence no details of the bike itself. Having just sold my car via motorway, and losing a decent wedge in six months, I'm trying to work out the most sensible (money wise) forwards. Options, recommision and sell privately (my least favoured option in truth as I'm not convinced I want folk poking around my garage) OR just sell as is, either via trade (not preferred as obviously they need to make profit) OR auction house (no idea on which one so I'd need to look into that unless someone has gone this route) I'm looking for inspiration. Cheers
Auction prices are not good at the moment. And you will pay about 20% commission on the sale. If it were me. I would advertise it privately, but you will then have people coming to view it a where it is kept.
Subscribe. Advertised it here as a recommission job. Very few on here would mess you around. Only issue is the market. It’s not bad, it’s on its knees.
Yeah, not a great time to sell is it. Cheers for the reply. Definately food for thought. This would be the first place I'd adverstise it, should I go that route.
Archive of the Ducati 9xx in the Guggenheim ... I that doesn't convince her.... http://pastexhibitions.guggenheim.org/motorcycle/index.html
Strange world, Here in the Netherlands prices are 20+ percent up compared to 2021 when I bought my 996S. Being a Beemer guy without any prior knowledge about Ducati's I bought it because of it's looks... https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/35-years-owning-11-bmws.85780/ I payed 7000 euro's for an unmolested and pristine 996 with full history and 18K miles in 2021.. just to find out it was an "S" on the dyno and confirmed the T1 rocker arms after inspection. My biposto original tail transfers say: "Ducati Superbike" No 996 no 996S.. just superbike.. Frame and engine belong together as confirmed by Ducati Heritage. I guess I got lucky somewhere along the way.
The least sensible way forwards moneywise is leaving it in the garage imo. If you haven't ridden it for years and you still don't fancy jumping in the saddle I'd sell it. Whatever you get is better than nothing, and it gets the bike out of your way. Put a description together with a few pics and place an ad here. Then you will either find a buyer or find out the value. Lots of people here with those bikes who can give you a strong indication of what its probably worth. Then take the money and spend it on something fun!
