So my beloved new V2 have just had its first service - asked there garage to install the Quadlock wireless phone charger. Didn’t do it - didn’t want to splice in to the wiring loom, so suggested I went with the original USB charger, that is just for plug in…… okay, fair enough- if that’s their policy, I may have to go with that - BUT, I’d still want to use my tomtom either on phone or the Rider550 as a physical device, so still need to tap in for some live-switched power - and not directly to the battery. Does anyone know where the connector is for this USB port? https://www.ducati.com/gb/en/accessories/ACC013196 Part number according to configurator should be 96681821AA - but googling it give various options from off-road framework for desertx to security module, and no results about a usb port…
I’m not sure if this plug under the seat just has a blanking cap on it which can be removed. I ‘think’ there was one behind the headlight as well but cannot fully remember.
My quess would bet its the one behind headlight as the OEM USB thingy looks to have rather short vires. I ordered one as well, but its on back order - bu can find any meaning full info where to plug it and what have the negineers planned for its location. you can also get an adapter for the diagnostic plug in rear cone and vire 12v from there thested yesterday but did not bother to start ripping the plastics off. So quadlock is waiting for juice.
Can't help you directly as such not owning a modern Ducati, however my QuadLock is wired to my heated grips terminal behind my headlight on my GasGas 700. No splicing into the loom was required and no taking it to the dealer to activate the circuit so all was good.
I also have the USB plug on back order. The install location is right below the ignition key on the right hand side. There is a rubber grommet that you remove. On the second picture I have removed the plastic shields to reveal the power plug and the last picture is from the left hand side with the plastic shields removed.
i see that part now officially listed for our bikes - https://shop.ducatimilano.com/en/31...1821aa-ducati-my25-streetfighter-v2-v4-s.html
Ducati Milano support just answered me to say that the USB socket needs activation from an authorized Ducati service center. However, I don't know if something inside the USB black box needs activation or if the white wire needs to be activated.
Judging carefully from the pic, I think it’s only A - apparently it is same part that is used on the Desert X
If anyone finds where to buy the white connector, I'll happily be a guinea pig to try to install a Quadlock 12V-USB adapter retrofitted for Ducati wiring, to see if it works at all.
Good news boys, The connector is accessible from left hand side, where you just need one panel off - AND it doesn’t need activation! you can get the connector from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CJTDFV5T?psc=1&smid=A2LFPSXWSOBTR&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp A set is landing with me tomorrow….
Thanks to your connector link and information, I've been able to successfully install my Wireless Charging head from Quadlock. I can confirm that the connector has 13V available without any activation required and the connector from Amazon works well and is of good quality (thx Stripy!!). As for installation, if you have the 12V native wireless head from Quadlock, any 12v native accessory or the official Ducati accessory, everything can be setup easily next to the connector. If you have a bigger setup, like mine, you can put any bulky piece under the seat, there is plenty of room. Then, it is easy to route the cables to the front, hidden from sight and well secured with zip ties. I don't think it is a good idea to try to put everything next to the connector as it is also the location of the air filter and air intake. Would be a bad idea to block the airflow. The issue for me is that I need the 12V to USB adapter from quadlock so that I have maximum compatibility with some (Google) Pixel phones. If you don't need that, the normal 12V wireless head is way cleaner and easier to install (no bulky adapter and extra cabling). See this comment for better explanation.
Beginner question: how important is it to use electrical tape around the 12v cables or the USB cable ? I did not have any available, but if it is important, I'll redo the setup.
If you’ve used the plug as mentioned 2 posts further up in this thread, you should’ve had some rubber prongs included, and you won’t need tape
Yes, I've used them to make the connector weatherproof. I was asking about the run of cable from the seat to the front, how important is it to have the cables protected ? I saw that all factory cables have either a braded protection or some sort of tape around them.
Depends naturally of the cable if it has proper protection I would only focus on the places where it may rub into something. But in essense try to run the cable in a way it does not rub anywhere and secure it with zip-ties.
