Is anyone else on here going on the Malle Arctic Rally from Copenhagen to the Nordkapp starting next weekend ? If you are come and say hi, I will be on my Rally.
It should be a bit warmer in August than it was for these Russian girls in early February a few years ago Saying that I remember it snowing on a ride from Kiruna to Narvik in mid August (but that was in back in the 1980s before global warming).
@ymfb - have a great trip and as @Jez900ie says please keep us posted with loads of pictures. There is great Ducati dealer, Sigma Moto, in Haugesund which hopefully you won't need. They helped me out when I took my Multi V4S to Norway in 2022 and was concerned about the very clunky gear changes at low revs in the first few gears. The bike had just had the first service done before we set off to Norway (via a ferry from Eemshaven in Holland direct to Kristiansand in Norway, which is no longer in operation). When in Stavanger, I called ahead and dropped in the next day, they checked the bike out after a brief test ride, said it was OK but the chain was a bit loose which they adjusted for me there and then at no charge
The Great Malle Arctic Rally to the Nordkapp was a 2,300-mile motorcycle ride across the greatest landscapes in Scandinavia. Starting in Copenhagen, Denmark, we rode through Sweden and into Norway across the Fjords. Passing the Arctic Circle to the finish line at the Nordkapp or North Cape, the end of mainland Europe. Despite us having tents setup for us before we arrived each site, meals provided and routes provided, 11-12 hour days were extremely tiring. There was a great sense of camaraderie amongst the rallyists and crew. The crew included medics, mechanics, marshals plus all the admin and organisers. Probably 50 of the rallyists like me were first timers and 50 had been on previous rally’s with Malle. We were warned about speeding, at least three people were stopped a few miles after the “James Bond” bridge on the Atlantic Ocean road. One had his license confiscated, told to leave the country by the shortest route, we heard rumour of a £500 fine. We were also warned about reindeer sheltering in tunnels, we saw many but none in a tunnel. Other than leaving Sweden on the Oresund tunnel/bridge we didn’t use multi lane roads. We used probably 15 ferries (lost count). One person dropped his Multi but he and the bike were unharmed and after being helped up he carried on. The route Copenhagen Lund Goteburg Oslo Geiranger Union Oye Trollstigen Kristiansund Namsos E6 past the Arctic Centre Storslett Alta Nordkapp Back to Alta where some of us dropped our bikes off for WMB Logistics to load up and return them to Copenhagen, Lille or Gloucester. We flew to Gatwick via Oslo.
It rained for 5 of the 8 days, I wore the wrong boots. I traded my 2021 V4S Travel & Radar for a Rally, unfortunately one of our team had an Indian with 100-120 mile range.
