Todays ride was mainly off road with a steep hill, which is mainly in my head. Absolutely smashed my previous time up the hill, I need to try it on my road bike. It was too cold to wash the gravel bike when I got home, so it’s in the garage covered in mud. I also used for the first time my new Rehook tool which my youngest bought me for Christmas.
it's good to read that (hopefully) all your joints survived the above steep hill. I, stupidly looking back, decided to cross the north downs twice (without standing on the pedals) in one day when i was cycling regularly around 15 years ago. There is a particularly steep section near Shere that all cyclists love to conquer. I upset my right knee badly as a result leading to bursitis - I couldn't even get my trousers on! Although tolerable for the most part, it's never been the same since.
All joints survived, thanks. I’m planning a LEJOG this year so I need to be careful with my 61 yo body whilst increasing my stamina and endurance ability. In previous years there has been a guy who used the same hill for his Everesting challenge for charity. IIRC he usually does it over an August bank holiday.
Today I did something a bit different, caught the train to Exeter met up with our daughter and her bf. We cycled to Exmouth and back. Snuck by the Lympstone base, nobody was on the lower training ground today. Great pasty on the seafront followed by coffee and cake at The Veg Box.
This chap lives near my brother in Spain. Absolute machine. https://blog.veloviewer.com/hitting...FFYHWJDE_aem_MHLmivT13DE9g7gftyCJbw#more-4346 I follow him on Strava.
First metric century of 2026, going to try and get at least one a month done. Weather was haphazard, plenty of puddles, knobs in cars. Great steak pastie at Shillingstone Railway cafe.
I really suffered with cramp in the evening, although not in bed. I also suffered with stomach issues, possibly the amount of Haribos consumed or soluble magnesium. I did a lot (for me) leg stretches with a yoga strap, I think I’m going to try and do that more frequently.
Foam roller and a massage gun are good investments. Stretching post ride is very important, muscle tightness/imbalance can lead to annoying knee pain. I'm addressing this myself atm. I'm having to leave spin and static bike alone for abit. You'll also recover faster with proper post ride care. I find creatine a good supplement to help with those DOMs.
I use the powder, I've been having a 3 egg and whey powder morning shake for last 20+ years, I've added it to that. No need to over do the dosage, I use 5g per day. Apparently good for ones neuroplasticity as well.
No idea on it's price as well if ya gotta ask........... https://road.cc/content/tech-news/aston-martin-reveals-worlds-first-boltless-bicycle-304813
Watching the Ribble Valley Cyclist on YouTube talking about ditching tubeless. I’m a tubeless fan on my gravel bike but I have thought about changing to TPU tubes on m6 roadie. When I bought TPU before they were quite pricey, but Jon was talking about buying Ride Now TPU from aliexpress for no money. ive never bought from aliexpress or bought Ride Now, anyone have any experience?
