Get Me Out Of This One.

  1. Can you get a three legged puller around the spacer, and protect the end of the spindle with a flat plate? Might do less damage than 'percussing' it against the bearing inner race.

(Pullers are chump change on Amazon....)

  2. Or summat like a chain wrench round the spacer and a spanner/socket on the net and see if they can be twisted apart.

Or how about getting down and dirty with the spacer and hacksawing the b'stard off by cutting with the blade running down the side of the axle.... ho hum... ahem...

  3. The Deox C mixed with water just didn't penetrate into it. I tried diesel/acetone mix but not much luck with that either. I eventually got the rockers moving on their spindles by laying the head on its side with the threaded ends uppermost, squirting Deblock Oil XS into the central oil way and let it sit for a couple of days. After the application of a bit of heat and more Deblock I got the rockers to start moving on their shafts. Once I got the rockers free, with the application of a bit of heat to the alloy head I was able to knock the spindles out.

  5. Good to see your making progress Paul. A lot better than that gearbox sprocket you had to deal with a few years ago. Doo all your Irish customers wash their bikes with sea water? ;)

  6. Indeed, I've seen better preserved artifacts on 'Digging for Britain.'

Hmm, Digging for Britain, Alice Roberts... [IMG]

  7. Paul, you are a glutton for punishment. Your customers do not deserve you. They treat their bikes like ships anchors then bring them to you to make them work again. How long will it be before that one is rusted up again? I would be too embarrassed to take a bike in that condition to anywhere other than the scrap heap.

  8. You've just reminded me she's on this evening in a new programme about a hospitol through time.
I'm rather hopeful she'll be trying on some nurses uniforms.

Oh, and glad you're getting somewhere WC Paul.

  9. Deox C with water doesn’t ‘creep’, the alcohol helps with that….

  11. I’m sure I don’t need to remind you the thread title here is technical advice…
Although saying that Alice does supply advice, technically.

  12. :sob::joy::joy:Even the spark plug was rusty

But look at the shaft of it, they were both the same. Those are new plugs that have done very very few combustions.

I’m now thinking it was serviced (the oil in the sight glass is still very clean) then ridden home in the wet and parked up.

Mind you who ever did the service was a complete ham fisted numpty. Look at how rounded off the mobile tensioned nut is.

I reckon he reused the old ones, tut tut tut. He also didn’t have any spring washers, so, what the hell, let’s put on a lock washer. Oh, and it was considerably more than 25Nm torque on it too .

Oh, I forgot to say, it was water in the coolant system :( and no, it’s clearly not a track bike.

The bike actually came to me from a dealer who gets me to service & prep the few Ducatis that pass through his hands (he’s deals mostly BMW, buys part ex’s off the main dealer and sells them on), this bike’s been sold to a customer in Spain and is due to be loaded up onto the lorry a week on Friday. Its touch & go it will be ready.

I can honestly say, I seriously considered calling him up and telling him to come and collect the thing as I’m not working on it. I’ve a 1980 Pantah 500SL with me at present too, which has been in a lean-to unused for a few years which I thought was bad, but by comparison to this Diavel, once you get under the covers, the Pantah could be described as ‘mint’ :joy:
