  1. You did an impressive number of miles in the time you had it, given that! I will slather it in ACF50 - they do seem to fare well from the photos of the higher mileage examples I have seen. Hopefully it won't be an impossible sale at 50k miles in 2-3y - at least there should be more with that mileage on the market then!

I am a few cm taller and will fit a little deflector on the top of the original - collecting the originals this weekend. I'm used to a tall screen on my GS, and on the high setting I was wanting just a little more! Good to know, it'll be interesting to try SBS, hopefully preferable. I'd like them to feel a little more confidence inspiring. Thanks so much for the info :)

Let's stay in touch - maybe I can buy your current one in the future :joy:

  2. > I want to use the hell out of it and not be too precious of it!

I can confirm this is the correct way to ride. :upyeah:

I'm also a new-to-Ducati owner as of Monday, and like you I intend to ride the year round, through the crusty salt :scream: to 50k, hopefully beyond. Let's hope we both make it without having to buy another one!

    Let the experiment begin...

  3. Hello! I'm the owner between Hills100 and yourself! Had it a year and really loved it.

I bought a pikes peak and have a carbon screen/deflector so yours has my standard pikes peak screen.

I put the chain on, sick of the standard one rusting. Used it all year never had a single problem, great bike! Never changed the pads, put new tires on it when I bought it Nov 2024.

I also put the tail tidy on

  4. Wow, great to know, thanks!

I saw you had an issue with the screen mount threads - you bought a new mounting bracket? Like for like Ducati one? I intend to put a stock clear screen back on - I bought one locally yesterday.

    Quite excited for tomorrow!

  5. Yes and that has a problem too! But longer bolt put in from a side panel and it bit, was just top two threads not allowing it to catch.

Anything else let me know and good choice!

  6. @baines93 congratulations on your purchase, they’re excellent bikes.

re front brake pads try Brembo 07BB37SA (red) or the LA (white) version. I use them in mine and rate them. The SA are Brembo’s after market road pads for the Pani, Streetfighter, Pikes Peak, Multi V4, anything which uses the same caliper. The LA are more specific for the MultiV4S/Pikes Peak where one might be touring and doing higher mileages.

Instead of ACF50, I’ve been getting good results with XCP Professional Rust Blocker Clesr Coat. It’s much much easier to apply direct from the bottle than ACF50 regardless of its temperature. Get the 500ml refillable spray bottle rather than the aerosol, better value for money and it’s not yet refused to spray a mist even when the temperature has been <5c.

  7. Agree with the XCP comments, I think it works better, also the non clear coat for places that get a bit more crap on them, but only where you can't see it, it is a bit orangey and dust etc will stick to it sometimes. Clear coat is great for areas you can see.

  8. Nothing wrong with a high miler...my z is just about to hit 30k (i got it at 7k) - if its been looked after then you shouldnt have an issue.....ive kept every receipt and bit of paper that mines ever had ( got a folder about 2" thick )

  9. Well, probably due an update here! Been riding the hell out of the V4S, when I haven't been ill anyway - some mega plague going round...

Excuse the disjointed summary - cross-posting posts from another forum.

Definitely the right choice. It's thirsty though, but touring with superbikes, I won't be the limiting factor...

I've got the touring mode set for extra soft suspension, but retain full engine power, and it's pretty easy to ride and almost GS smooth - Skyhook is good. Sport remains in medium, and I haven't really needed or wanted stiffer, yet - even the anti-dive is decent. The electronics are mad - not fiddled much yet, but as set, seem unobtrusive, especially wheelie and traction control, barely notice them, and able to use masses of throttle for winter, many liberties. QS up and down is great. The engine note on song is addictive for sure, and shifting up right on the limiter makes it almost a different bike to short shifting at 8-10k - with the Skyhook gubbins, a very very jekyll and hyde bike!

    Initial buys/changes:
    • Second hand original clear screen & side deflectors (only to find original deflectors in the top box haha)
    • Second hand decat link pipe - to go on once warranty out, unchoke it a little
    • Second hand Ducati aux lights - having missed the R1200GS' verge & hedgerow lighting
    • Second hand heated pillion seat - plug & play
    • Second hand SW Motech Evo pegs - standing on originals better since rubber inserts removed but wider + adjustable height & angle nice
    • Xitomer Carplay screen bracket - with 3d printed adapter to get closer to the screen, less in my face, and down a bit
    • 3D printed throttle spacer to remove the initial slack
    • 7x5 plate

    Also moved over:
    * 7" Carpuride - wired into Ducati GPS connector
    * Quadlock hardwired wireless charger puck - wired into Ducati GPS connector - for longer trips
    * Quadlock Pro handlebar mount off my Norton, will need to replace!

I've (rough) 3d printed a chain slack measurement tool, as that was indeed missing from the toolkit, a stop button cover I found online to prevent (further!) disc lock damage, and Carpuride mount adapter - it was a stretch away on the GS, and on this it felt like it was in my face - limited by screen rake, but this really helped - black nylon in the end. The sticky outy bit sits on a thermal pad and acts as a heatsink for the device, else i'd just print a new lower profile offset back plate.

The screen was a little low even on the highest setting (seat on high also, gentler on the knees) so put a WRS Caponord screen on. Not perfect, might fabricate some brackets to make the screen rake adjustable/slightly steeper.

The seat isn't quite GS comfy - will keep an eye out for the taller version, as I could fit it in the low position, or get mine re-padded locally but keep it factory looking. Beyond that, the only other annoyance is the lack of keyless filler cap, but they're pricey from Ducati - i'll keep an eye out for an eBay bargain.

  10. Getting some use!

I got the second hand Ducati "fog" lights fitted. The wide headed shouldered bolts were missing (£11/each from Ducati on the Grand Tour parts diagrams!) so I 3d printed some subtle black nylon washers and small collars to do the same job, in conjunction with stainless dome headed bolts. The aftermarket rad guards meant the cables were pinched too, so 3d printed spacers employed. Handy old thing to have around...

Final mount to relocate the Carpuride unit. The nylon filament seems to be super moist, not printing well, but will do for now. I've got some nice carbon fibre infused filament i'll have to try.

    Most recent tinkerings:
    • Red side panels ordered from Ducati Milan - big cosmetic improvement IMO - wish they'd come like this!
    • Fog lights enabled thanks to Bumpkin!
    • Taller WRS Caponord screen fitted - not perfect, still a little noisy on the helmet vents - might fabricate some brackets to make the screen rake adjustable / slightly steeper?
    • As per all my bikes, 5x7 plate now on the Evotech tail tidy.
    • Keis heated jacket harness & CTEK quick connect fitted - between the Keis, heated seat & grips I was warm enough in normal jeans @ 0c this morning!
    • Ducati Touring hand guards with wind deflectors fitted - second hand bargain - left hand one has some crash rash i'll repair, then spray the aluminium black. De-silvering...
    • Masses of black tar spots cleaned off swing arm, shock, end can - never seen a bike collect so much!
    Getting used!

Aux lights enabled - thanks Bumpkin!

    Touring hand guards:

I'll get the second hand grazed up left hand guard aluminium bracket filled, smoothed off and them both blacked out next - as well as the exhaust shield / sump guard as per the AI image - leaving little more than the footpeg hangers & swingarm silver. If i'm happy with the look I will probably get the blacked out parts powdercoated.

Also want to procure the parts for the air vent flaps/closers - definitely get a lot of road crap on your legs at this time of year.

Just the decat & SW Motech adjustable enduro pegs to fit now! As you can tell by the work to make it the perfect spec for me - I love the thing! The best bike i've ever ridden I reckon, as a comfortable, usable, confidence inspiring do-it all bike, that encourages & inspires me to just ride!

  11. Great to see it being used properly still!

Amazing the difference those red side panels make

  12. Really enjoying just using it! Must get some XCP corrosion protection on it - being ill it sat grotty for a couple of weeks. Nice to have the peace of mind. Hopefully we won’t see any more gritting now though until winter - at least down here!

    Thanks! Glad you like it.

  13. @Danduro or @hill100 did either of you have. Scottoiler? I saw a few holes in the lower chain guard shark fin thing today and it’s the only logical explanation. If so, where did you hide it? I’d like to tuck one out the way but yet to find a good home.

  14. Not me, Hills100 nay have though think he did a lot of long distance touring on it

  15. Yes, I had a Tutoro oiler, and drilled the small holes in the shark chain guard to secure the feeder.
