Yesterday I managed a second metric century during February. This car had fallen victim to SSEN works where the safety fencing had floated away. 69 miles, masses of flooded roads.
Went for a ride Tuesday afternoon. C26 miles. Took a couple of wrong turns had an interesting diversion. Now I know where I’m going did same ride today -bit faster. Still took a wrong turn though , but a different wrong turn…. It’s interesting what ‘ stuff’ you encounter on these smaller road rides. Things like canals off shoots and today, smaller railway line -as per photo. Also came across River Yeo which looks like it’s seen some decent flows of water in past couple of months. Trundled over the M5 ( twice) -unusually flowing quite well for a Friday. I’m glad I’m not one of those commuting home on a Friday afternoon. I did do today’s ride at a quicker average pace - I might do the same ride again next week. Might try for a bit quicker again. I might even try and go the right way !!!
Chickened out of cycling through this puddle. Walked round. Cycled through the next one -came within a gnats whisker of coming a cropper….!
I’ve started my LEJOG training, I’ve started working with an endurance strength trainer specialising in over 30 yo. By the time I set off I will be 62.
Yesterday, I caught the train down to Exeter to meet and cycle with our youngest daughter. Due to a signalling issue my train arrived late. I’m about to try delay repay. We used a route that Harvey Cycling from YouTube and Strava had previously done. It took us a while to find it, but once we had what a stunning route, a few spiky hills, including one 16%. Unfortunately I picked up a slight niggle in my right knee, which only hurts when climbing. It didn’t stop me yesterday, but I have shelved today’s metric century. Sadly I missed my train by a few minutes so had to wait an hour for the next.
Just managed to get my March metric century ride in yesterday, it was cold, wet at times and windy. Completely different from last weeks ride around Devon. Bib longs, base layer, winter socks and jersey, long fingered gloves and waterproof jacket for the return leg. Bike has an annoying squeak so off to the LBS
Annoying squeak turned out to be a sticky piston. I was grateful for the LBS fixed it while I waited, so I bought a couple of things.
