Headstock Stand - Pin Size 749r

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by RickyX, Jul 10, 2026.

  1. Afternoon all,

I have just bought a lovely second hand Gee-Tech Headstock Stand.

I knew that the 16.68mm dia pin supplied would not be suitable for my 749R.
Shouldn’t be a problem as so I can get it turned down to the correct size.

I measured the hole in my yoke and it’s just under 14mm diameter - bit tricky to do as the internal prongs of my caliper aren’t quite long enough to get a reliable reading.

    Couple of questions:
    Does anybody have a pin for a 749R? @Paul55 ? @nelly ?
If so, could you measure it please?
What sort of clearance is needed - tight fit or fairly loose.

    Thanks!

  2. I will get the measurement for you tomorrow although I think this stand is not specifically for the 749 hole.

  5. Interesting that the different bottom yoke for the R has a hole, as the standard one doesn't, I had to drill my 999 yoke and sleeve the bottom of the stem to use one.

  6. 749r = Race bike innit

  7. It has a hole in the bolt that allows the steering stem to be eccentrically adjusted to compensate for the adjustable headstock angle.

  8. I will never reach the Expat Jack level of Haynes Manual, but this might help :)

  12. Sorted.
Settled at 13.5mm diameter which is snug, but not tight.
