Just been removing the rear wheel ready for a new tyre and I found a slight 'clunk'. The bike is on the centre stand and as I lean on the back end to make the rear wheel contact the floor prior to untightening the wheel nut there is a slight clunk between the wheel touching the floor and feeling the resistance of the suspension. If I repeat the process with my finger pushed between the frame and the upper suspension mount I can feel a very small amount of play which matches the 'clunk'. Does anyone understand what I'm trying to explain and does anyone have the same. She's just having a new tyre before being put to bed for the winter and warranty will expire 1st March 2018 so now might be a good time to get it sorted if indeed it is an issue. Skyhook model with only 3,500 moles on the clock. Is this small amount of play normal or ?
I don’t know the answer but, when my ignition switches on I can hear the electronic suspensions buzzing as if it’s doing what it’s supposed to do, I guess it sets itself up for the mode your in. How about switching your ignition on and se did you have the clunk? I could be completely wrong and mad but hey I’m happy.
I just tried it on all 4 modes and after all the buzzing and whirring stops there is still the play in the top suspension mount - not a lot but just enough to ‘clunk’ when I grasp the rear disk and pull upwards ( I’ve taken the wheel out to change the tyre) Anyone know if this is normal ?
From the resounding silence I’m beginning to think it’s ‘just me’ so I’d better get it back to the dealer to be checked.
Hi not your answer but I,m surprised your putting a new tyre on now. Most wait till springtime unwrap & then fit new tyre fresh for summer.
I agree but I punctured on my last day of a week in the Picos in the ‘middle of nowhere” and was lucky to get a completely wrong spec tyre fitted by a scooter garage to get a me back to the ferry & home so I wanted to get the correct tyre fitted before putting her away for the winter.
Have you got an answer? Are you sorted? With ignition off, the rear suspension is solid, so I wonder of the clonk is the bearing play as suspension is like a hardtail? Bit late for me to go check mine but can have a look tomorrow if needed.
This one? https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/play-in-my-shocker-linkage-is-normal-apparently.52993/ Think there have been a couple over the last year
Thanks for the link that's exactly what I was trying to describe - I've been to SMC this morning for the new tyre and had a good discussion with a very helpful mechanic. We looked at several bikes from new to more mature and all have the very same small amount of play in the upper mount. He told me this was quite normal but will double check mine when I've put the wheel back in. I'm happy that there's nothing amiss but will keep an eye on it. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

Ducati leeds did say ducati would probably change rear shock if it was out of warranty and failed first mot as a good will gesture but with out that in writing I bet it would be a different story . Does seem to be common on a lot of bikes though and mines not got any worse and it’s 14k on it now my two years are up April 2018 . Local mot guy did say it’s discretionary as to what excessive play is ! We shall see ...
