After getting fed up with unsightly tank pads, I bit the bullet and had the tank fitted with ventureshield. A bit pricey but well worth it.
Yes it’s loud with the baffle out but too quiet with it in, I had to get the grinder and drill on the baffle to get the loudness right.
I’ve got an sc project conical on my 1200r and not had any problems with the link pipe being too close.
About a year, my own fault should have kept it topped up or got her out on the bike.

This has been going on for years. Yamaha’s Exup valves were always seizing up and this was in the 80’s
