I think the canister is something to do with the EVAP system after looking at a diagram.
It’s the canister that sits at the front of the engine. It’s job it to recirculate un burnt fuel.

I replaced mine recently. I managed to thread it though to the coil pack. A fiddly but quite easy job. I didn’t have to remove any of the bodywork
