That's because you have left a section of the spindle and graphite gasket. From an engineers view the only way to do it properly is the cap and weld.
Think il just take it to work tomorrow and weld both ends closed properly. Don't want to build it up and then find out it's leaking!!

What about the other side of the spindle? It's caped over but I can see daylight through where it's not welded
It's not gonna cost me anything and will give me something to do while she watches all the shit of the day soaps

How difficult was the spot welds to grind off?? Also how do you get the spindle out and then seal it up? Bolt and nut like on the video?
