Plugs are easy to do yourself and quite easy to get to on the 966 (unlike 848 horizontal plug which can be a bitch to get to... Why they didn't...

Depends on how much you rag it... loads of track days or hooligan riding they I'd service it on time or early, but normal riding you should be ok...
