If it is the solenoid plug, smear it in a bit of bathroom silicon and put it back in again, that will stop it popping back out.

Check the wire underneath the tank to The solenoid, it often pops out. Mine had same symptoms and that was the problem.
Were the rocker issues sorted with the later 996 style 748's?

It does look nice but spoilt with the silly chav number plate and unnecessary Agip sticker, I'm surprised the dealer didn't put a full size plate...
My wife's A3 black edition has them, and you are right they do look chavtastic, luckily on our 2012 car they can be turned off.
