Quick update: followed Pfk's advice (Thanks mate) and drilled and tapped a M4 hole 9mm deep in the stand where the wear was then fitted a cut down...

In my experience France is better the further away from Calais you are. Just carry your docs and you cant go far wrong, but bring summer gloves...
