As far as stripping the frame goes I would recommend shotblasting. You can use angle grinder with a wire cup, drill with a wire wheel and dremel...
There isn't that much difference between 900 and 1000DS engines... but if I remember correctly mounting bolts are different. I think 900 uses 10mm...
