I’ve had four multis and never fitted any protection to the headlights and never had an issue.
I also switched mine from my 1260 to the V4 so it’s the same one.
Red is much faster! I think the issue with the original ones was they would rotate when the clutch was pulled in for a while whilst at lights etc...
