I think the hooks were put on to the 996 onwards as an extra 'security' measure. I have a '98 (last year model) 916 and there were no such hooks.

ZDM800A2 means it's an 800cc air cooled 2 valve, the following number is the serial no.

Another advantage is that you can remove the forks if required and it's easier to fit the wheel as the forks are unloaded and line up easier....

Less weight... All things being equal a wave disc will weigh less. I wouldn't use them up front but as I don't do much rear braking then a wave...
