My crankcases are sandcast and it's only a 998s. Going through the forums, some were, some were painted. Parts bin jobby.
Just done mine not so long since. You can get a decent finish using rattle cans but the important thing is to strip the cases of bearings / seals...
Just to add to @steve c 's post, they are a decent dealer and I'm sure there'll be a bit of give on their behalf.
