I've not got a 1299 but have an 1199 and had the exact same problem, the engine would almost go silent and feel flat and then suddenly wallop back...
I ride in perforated leathers over here in summer and winter and never found them to be a problem even in winter.... in summer they are a godsend...

Got them on my 1199, you'll need a custom map but I heartily recommend them... look great, and sound fab too :thumbsup:

Having just said that I think you also need the red key to reprogram the ECU, but if you're just after coding black keys then with the red key...
I was told the same, when I had my 999s I only had two black keys and the codecard, Ducati told me that the red key is only needed if you need to...
