And it helps if you lightly grease the o-rings with vaseline or similar before fitting the connector. It makes them less likely to get pinched.
I should have said, to release the connectors you squeeze the plastic bits at each side to release it then pull it straight out.
Don't worry the fuel will stay in the tank apart from a few drops that will leak out when you separate the connectors. It's better to do these...
