As NZDave says, the spring caps should not move out if they do I can only think the hub nut is loose. Operate the clutch and have a close look....

As Chris says, check the tangs of the plates and the outer drum you should see the wear, if the drum wears to much it can get notches in it and...
Had that with the sedation, unfortunately you feel very little until it wears off and then I had stomach cramps that doubled me up for 3 hours...
A new center hub is about £80 plus half an hour to fit.
Should be fine as it is, many people only use four springs.
