I did the same with my 996 sps motor, all standard inside just blue printed and balanced with ported heads and and every componant super finished.

No it's still a 1098r still worth good money
Other way to check is look at the steering damper bolt hole it should bolt onto the frame not welded on.
Don't think the 1098r's were actually numbered mate they just had 1098r stamped on the top yoke.
