ive never had one apart my self, but i know you have to split the crank cases to get the gear box out.
Yes 1098 and 1198 can have weak gearboxes think 2nd and 3rd gears have to be replaced with hardened steal ones. Engine strip down job I'm afraid.

well guys the gixxer was a blast on wednesday went really well and kept in one piece!! i think it might have been over geared as it was still...
