Can’t you just use a couple of alloy spacers on either end? Been toying with this idea and removing the nylon jobby to get a bit more lock.

That’s the problem with old tank pads, you never know what they were stuck down with. The wrong type of silicon and the paint underneath will be...
54mm system with the remap will give you a big gain. Or even the half system. This was a common mod.
And suspension, Andy. Get that sorted first as it’ll transform the bike.
