This might suggest the ecu is coded to the key? But, I think you're saying as long as there's a recognised password/handshake then we're good to...
Similar to what I did on one of my old 1098 builds. Bypassed the ignition switch and strapped the ignition key to the antenna ring.

That's interesting/very useful to know. So, the ignition barrel is the clever bit that is coded to the key? No coding to ecu or dash display like...
