Not that i'm aware of. It needs plugging in to read software version. Can be scanned at same time to see if there are any updates available.
The relay pulls in most of the fuel injection system, incl. the fuel pump. Also puts 12V on to the injectors and coils.

Pretty much John. They're buggas to get out, specially if they've been in since new. A little greas on the o-rings helps when they go back together.
Defo replace the relay as Chris mentioned. I think on yours, you'll find it bottom left behind the heat shield, just underneath the starter relay....
