Could you not remove the bottom mounting bolt ,loosen the top one and just swing the caliper up a bit to gain full access to the bolt ?

I had the same problem on my Monster ,it turned out to be corrosion at the back of the fuse holder ,
Take a look on the Demon Tweeks site ,as there are some decent stands for not silly money on there ,
