It's not so much a business model as a show of muscle: those that can (because they have the cash) shaping the world as they want to see it. Trump may be the first strong man politician for a while, but Silicon Valley and banking is full of them, they just wear jeans now instead of suits ;-) It's not the first time: remember Amazon? Or Twitter for that matter. AI is another future example: fortunes being pumped in to AI when there is not Proof yet that computers can actually think.
