update: looks like the screw on the lever kept on loosening itself... that's why i couldn't get it right lol. put some loctite on it, and readjusted. now it runs great. can find neutral multiple times at a stop with no effort. i wonder why my mechanic told me my clutch pump was shot... it just needed to be adjusted....
