1098 Sf - Commuter?

Discussion in 'Streetfighter' started by Ascalon, Oct 18, 2019.

  1. To be honest if you want as a commuter there is always the 848sf option - it will cost less loads of low mileage for sale - does everything you need it to ?
We have both and fitted a QS on the 848 I think it’s a hoot to ride / ring it’s neck

  2. I have not put up much milage on my SFS, but I don't see it being suitable as a commuter...I find I fall forward onto the tank, with the obvious ball ache

  3. I have a 1098 SF also...and...I would definitely use it every day if that was my thing. People here are right...the water and dirt gets everywhere, so spay it with ACF-50..that'll protect it.

Power delivery compared to the Fazer (which was my last bike before this one) is totally different. The Fazer is so powerful down low, the SF is brutal compared.
Filtering through traffic is easy...mostly first or second gear. 25-30 mph is first gear for the most part, Although when I changed my exhaust, the back pressure was totally different and allowed me to use second at 30mph...

Foot peg issue, I ride on the balls of my feet because I have scraped the outside toe sliders off my boots on both sides. The pegs are quite low.
You get used to it either way.

Change the clutch master slave cylinder, £50 and makes the clutch smooth as...and you can do that at home in about 20 minutes.

Wind protection, we know there is none and yes, a good helmet and a set of ear plugs are key. Touring is a bit hard on it as there is nowhere for a bag. I used a back pack for a weekend away and my shoulders were killing me, but...So what. I also rode from home to Silverstone which is about 380miles each way and the bike was faultless and comfy.

    I love it....

I've had mine since April this year and I've done 4k on it.

That means I have 4 thousand miles of smiles

I grin every time I get on it.

  4. If you haven’t already, drop one off the front sprocket so you can get 2nd around town.

  5. Oh my daze..I've not done that yet....I'm going to look into it.
Will that help the front come up ?
Honestly, I love it when it does/on purpose.

  6. Yes! 14t front is the best way to make a ducati work around town by far.

or if replacing chain and sprockets go up 2 or 3 on the rear. Down one normally means standard chain is ok, bigger rear means chain need to be longer

  7. I have the Ducati performance fly screen. Makes a huge difference
