1098r - Intermittent Cutting Out

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by RickyX, Aug 26, 2017.

  1. Checked the P/No's....they are different on 749/M1100. Probably just the wire length.

  2. Error code 37.1 Immobiliser.
Perhaps it is the age old antenna issue that is causing the thing to cut out?
    Switched on again...no error..starts.
    Cleaned both sensors and connections.
Checked antenna wire and evidence of corrosion. All fine.

  3. Couple more things you could try. Remove the ECU and separate from the heatsink by removing the 4 torx bolts. Clean both mating surfaces with emery paper. Reassemble. There is an earth fly lead that goes under one of the ECU bolts. Check this for damage and Verdi Gris. Repair if damaged. Clean with emery paper and reassemble.

  4. I think the immobiliser error is not related as it has been a bit iffy for a while anyway.
When it cuts out under power, there is no warning ⚠️ light.
I will try the ecu too.

  5. Did the ecu and earth. Very minor Verdi gris but I emeried it anyway.
All back together now. Will test it tomoz.
    Thanks all.

  6. Update:
Went out for a short run today.
In my drive, snicked into 1st and the speedo said "137" mph...at a standstill.
Whole ride continued with similar ridiculous readouts. No cutting out or warning ⚠️ light so no error codes.
    There's summat not right....
    Arse...

  7. Did you swap the front / rear speed sensors around Ricky?

  8. No, that may be next. Or I'll just buy one new one and put that on. Now that I have other issues (see bad luck posting).

  9. @Robarano swapped sensors today.

Before I did it, running the bike in neutral in the garage, the speedo was cycling through random speeds, 34, 147, 54 etc and ---'s.
After I swapped and put the front one in the back wheel..steady as a rock, neutral and 1st gear with the clutch out.
Reckon that's diagnosed the problem to the rear wheel sensor.
    Best get one on order.

  12. Fitted the new speed sensor just now...85quid!

Anyway, whilst removing the old one, noticed this below.
I reckon that could explain all my woes...could have just repaired the wires! Oh well, I will repair it and have it as a spare.
Not tested the speedo yet as waiting to get my fork brackets made.

  15. In my squirming defence....the damaged wire portion is not visible with the wheel installed.

Also, I wanted everybody to learn the human factors that contributed to this avoidable incident:
    - Poor lighting conditions leading to missed inspection opportunity
    - Operator Fatigue, stress and distraction
    - Inadequate tooling and facilities
    - substance abuse
    - the Bloke was a fakkin eeejit

  16. The routing of those wires is pretty shit tbh. They're a right bastard to re-locate and easy to pinch.
Hopefully this is the source of your woes...:upyeah:
