1098s Brembo Discs *wanted

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by gremlyng, Feb 22, 2016.

  1. I wasn't thinking you were ;)

  2. Fo you know how many miles they have covered since new? Just don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire if that makes sense. The ones fitted to my bike other than having too much front to back play in the bobbings are in good condition.

  3. They were new when I bought my OZ wheels
They came off a new Panigale being built for superstock (story I was given)
I fitted them onto my 1100 evo and did approx. 1100 miles

I changed to Braking wave 320mm discs and put 330s into garage

  4. Ah right thats cool, good to know a little background information. So they are in really good condition with plenty of life left? Sorry to be an old granny in being overly cautious just want to make sure they are in better condition than what I currently have fitted.

  5. Brake discs are stamped with a minimum thickness figure on the carrier. My Brembo race discs not normally available to the general public started out life at 6mm thick and I see the current crop of "performance" discs that are available to the general public are 5.5mm. If these discs are 5mm ish as I suspect, there is plenty of life left in them. Andy

  6. Thanks for the confirmation on the thickness, which is also important but if I'm honest I was actually more concerned over the play in the bobbins, if you held the disc like a steering wheel whist on the wheel carrier pulling the disc front to back (or in line with the drive of the bike) the amount of slack or play you can see or feel. This is the problem with my current discs there seems to be far too much movement. Not sure how much they have when new.

  7. Right this is getting very OCD for me

    Let me dig them out

I will not be bolting them onto a wheel so cannot check bobbin play

    They worked perfectly when removed
And that will not have changed.

If you want new you should be buying new ones from Ducati

  8. I appreciate I may well be over analysing and I am sorry I'm not wanting to be a pain in the arse. The current discs do the job but there is excessive play so I just wanted to make sure I'm not buying discs that are in the same condition although I accept that is unlikley if yhey came off a newer bike. Anyhows, if you let me know when you have dug them out I'm definately wanting them please.

  9. right discs dug out
please note they have sat on a shelf for a year since I used them.
no lip at edge of pad area and no play that I felt in use but I think your confusing float with play.

  10. I'm not sure what the tolerance is on the float, I know that if I hold the current discs the float play is probably betweem 3 and 4mm which to me seems to much play. Anyhow I'll defo have yours off you please @Cobra88 - PM sent

  11. I just took a short video of the movement in the front discs, I never feel anything untoward when braking, but I'd appreciate someone with more knowledge to let me know if they be knackered or normal. I think the centre carriers are worn.

Either way I want your discs please @Cobra88

  12. Wow they are Toast

  13. I thought so, but glad to get some elses opinion.

  14. I've got a pair that are worse than that (after 5k miles), I feel your pain. I've just bought a pair of Brembo series oro 12 bobbin discs as replacements, it would appear the standard 6 bobbins are not up to the job if you like stopping in a hurry

  15. I have a mate with a 2008 tricolore and his discs seem fine, he's got the same sort of miles on the clock too. I use engine breaking most of the time unless I need to stop in a hurry, I thought that the previous owner of the bike had given them a hard time or that they were meant to have that amount of play, so many mixed opinions but I thought they were nearing to being knackered.

This is the first bike I've had with Bremobo floating discs so just didn't know.
