1098s Upgrade - In Pursuit Of Handling In Nascar Country

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by DJ23, Jan 24, 2017.

  1. Thanks Bullitt, I will reach out if I need to source something. That is a hell of a deal on the Rapid bike when you do what some of us here on this site and have done (or are trying to do). I know makes so much more sense to buy a complete bike, but I quite like having a "project" to work on. I'm sure mine will end up being a hybrid of sorts, not sure I'll want to go broke throwing money at this addition to acquire all the RS electronic bits.

  2. I very much get the project part, it's great fun building a bike up from almost nothing.

BSD offer the MM system which might put you at ease with regard to the electronics. It's a proper piggy-back system that will allow you to everything the RS system will do, in fact probably more.

As you can see however, it's not in the slightest bit "cheap" and you need to buy a lot of additional kit and have it installed and set up, so I'd think it's likely to be a good bit more $$ wise. But it is the kit to have if not going down the RS route.

  3. Yeah, I saw that and only about $18,000 US! I don't think so...

  4. Couple photos from the recent Track day at Road Atlanta. Is it just me or do the older tracks that follow the lay of the land offer much more challenges and thus rewards once you get them sussed? PRE-ROAD-ATL-20170715-115753-7453-ZF-3957-29400-1-001-008.jpg

It was crazy hot in Atlanta, in the mid 90's with high 90+ humidity! Bike is working really well with the upgrades and recent settings. Now fine tuning has begun, may change one front spring down to provide for a tad more feel. Currently have the fork oil set at 170mm from top lip with springs and spring support removed. Under hard braking at the end of the straight forks are collapsing down to about 20 to 25mm mm front fork travel left, which seems about right. Road Atlanta has a long back straight (albeit with a kink), I was just touching 160mph (probably closer to 153/4 in reality) before braking on a downhill slope, so there is a lot of weight transfer onto the front wheel. Figure that it's not going to collapse any further than it would at this spot on the track so springs and air spring seem about right. May compensate the air-spring to 160mm below the lip to account for a slightly softer (metal) spring change.

  5. One more... Tipping it into turn 1, fast uphill sweeper. Great turn! PRE-ROAD-ATL-20170715-115411-7421-ZF-3957-29400-1-001-006.jpg
