  1. Thank you Peter T , I had been disappointed on missing out on few.
This bike was 15 miles away from me. I couldn't believe my luck.
Be interesting riding again after my health problems, been a couple of years , R1 can go to Spain, when it is recommissioned, mapped and and Woolich fitted with race tools , and
    FTECU removed.
Looking forward to bringing her home tomorrow, my friend will bring back the luggage and i just ride the bike home.
Tbh , I haven't ridden a Ducati before, it will be a great experience, especially the way the torque comes in on the twins , and I do have a soft spot for twins .

  2. Yes, it's great, gearing is worth doing but do not go to change the front sprocket, as it kills it being so aggressive being a twin. I cannot remember of hand what i did but it's here on the forum. The Ohlins ECU upgrade was not that good either and i documented that in a whole chapter of suspension issues that i tried to fix. Overall that first gen1/2 was the best bike i owned and loved.

  3. Well that will be my first job to get rad guard and the gearing . It has a new rad fitted aftermarket and I think slightly fatter than the original.
Unfortunately there's hardly any kits the reverse shift to race .
I see someone drilled and tapped the shift lever and managed it that way.
As for the gearing ,I want only lower it a bit ,a big twin has plenty of torque.
I remember on the Aprilia forum they w

  4. went to far ,and when I tried it , it almost defeated the objective, the bike was revving too high when cruising, used loads more petrol.
I can't remember but I think on that bike I just went up one tooth on the back , which for me was enough, subtle but effective.

  5. This is a great site for getting your head around gearing, revs at certain speeds, chain length, chain wear, final drive...etc..

  6. I did the front sprocket, it didn't kill mine. The main differences were that it owuld now comfortably hold 30mph in third without feeling laboured and 70mph cruise in sixth on the motorway without needing to change down to fifth if there was a slight incline. Experiences and opinions vary of course, but kill it? I don't see how.

  7. Hi Moorland Monster, can I put a 14 on the the front without getting another chain as that and the sprockets are virtually new, 200 miles. T.I.A.

  8. I believe you can, I did mine as a complete change but I got the info from here and this chap seems to say that you can do the change of the sprocket without changing the rear sprocket or the chain (although its a bit fiddly)

  9. Some great help there from everyone thank you . Has anyone got a lowered seat that they would like to sell please .
Also the throttle cables seem to have aot of slack ,is this coomon with this model and why do the make spacers for them .
I will adjust them to see if can make it better.
I will see what I can machine up for the reverse shift although i only made one mistake on the was home and it was in sport, loved that engine ,see why my late friend loved his Ducatis.
Tyres , I want to put some Metzler M9RR or even Dunlop TT smart.
It has Michelin 2 CT ,but the front feels vague to me.
What nice man I bought this bike off , all the books and receipts since new ,gave me a lock for the front discs ,and a charger and he bought it new , though i will probably go to Lithium,Noco or Shido ,as I feel they protect the sprag cluthes , and I have been running Lithium for over 10 years now .
I like it a lot ,it has character , I would like steering damper too.
    Many thanks .

  10. Hi, I see my bike has a 41 tooth rear sprocket already on ,is 40 tooth standard?
