Bit of luck for the police. I expect they've been trying for years to get him put away for his catalogue of other, more serious crimes. Shame its only two years. He'll be out in two months under our current happy-clappy human-rights based justice. There's been much entirely justifiable criticism of the USA and their methods of policing and attitudes towards firearms in recent threads, but over there, on an empty free-way, they would simple have shot him. A satisfactory outcome in this instance.
My ex (one of them anyway ) Dr M Roberts used to do voice analysis investigations free lance for the police - they can pin point voice patterns like finger prints, well, nothing like finger prints but just as effective. :smileys:
has anyone looked at some of those videos, and checked the milometer against time and speed? something does not add up on some of those videos
Slightly off topic but I came in and the missus was watching some program about Canadian customs, one of the scenarios was they had suspicions about a woman and her intentions, so they asked for her phone which they then used to check out her story and credentials and found she had been lying about some of the statements she had made. Apart from not being the brightest bulb in the building handing over your phone, I guess you are in a bit of a dammed if I do dammed if I don't position. This just re-enforces my determination not to have a mobile well except when out on the Ducati, when its an essential tool ("Hello is that Green Flag?")
There was a video posted on FB yesterday, showing how British bobbies dealt with a machete-wielding disturbed guy. The inference was to US law officers - this is how you do it. You don't have to shoot or taser the bloke. A comment under the vid (from an American, I assume) blithely said that if you brandish a weapon, you forfeit your life, end of story. I guess that is what they really think over there, which is why they have their reality and we have ours. I know which I prefer.
The fact that you take the mobile on the Ducati already damns you. It would be able to work out where you were at any given time, thus computing your speed. Honestly, go anywhere near the things and its like having the spy in your pocket.
Is that true? I suspect it is, but I don't know how it communicates without any power, unless there is a constant trickle charge letting beacons know where you are.
Only if it's a smart phone or one with GPS. It's for this reason criminals carry old GSM sets now, yes you can triangulate between mast but that gives you nowhere near the accuracy. Older hands sets (think Nokia 6230) can't be turned on remotely or have the mic enabled to eavesdrop. Next time you see someone with an old phone their either smart, wear a foil hat or tight!
Apparently an "App" needs to be installed so that it only appears to be Off. Presumably this can be done remotely when it is On ?
Agreed. The reasons why a jury convicts or acquits a defendant are never revealed or published, so we will never know details. However it is possible to speculate constructively. All I was suggesting is that in any report of a case where the evidence presented to the court seems doubtful or flimsy, there is a possible extra factor. The jury may have decided which witnesses it thinks were lying and which were telling the truth. This may have affected the verdict. Speculative, yes, but a possible explanation.
At the moment its an old Motorola V3 but I'll need to get a new one, it will be as basic as I can get. I wouldn't get a smart phone under any circumstances, no way do I want a phone that's smarter than me
