So story is. Recently bought a 2001 ss ie loving it but always a bit It has a bad fuel leak from the tank. Discovered previous owner did a rubbish temporary repair. Cannot for life of me find replacement tank and £600 to repair. Found one tank where advert says tank is for a ss 1999 to 2007 but does not know part number? another says part number ends AA but my bike part number ends DA are these the same? Does anyone know of a tank or repair for me? Or with 31,000 mile on clock should I scrap bike?
Definitely would not scrap the bike for want of a tank. How much are they asking for the used tanks, and what condition are they in?
Used tank one wants £700 another wants £180 but it’s 1999 to 2007 they do not know part number but I think some tanks end code is AA my tank ends DA do not know if one is for injection as mine is and one is for carb very confusing my tank can get repaired for £650 just looking options
Carb and injection tanks are very different shape. 99 to 07 is the right range. Have you seen pictures? There is onle one ie tank from this time. I think the code includes colour, so Was your tank’s (poor) repair due to rust? used at £700 just for the tank is wishful thinking. I would pass on that. £180 sounds more fair, especially if reasonably tidy, but check it isn’t rusty / repaired too, or the most tatty, dented junk available. Where in the Uk are you?
Thank you so very much that is extremely helpful now I’m beginning to understand so 1999 to 2007is the right tank yes? I can get one of these for 180 note from Netherlands that has been repaired and is exact color of mine and looks exact same as mine it looks ok but do not know what it’s been repaired with they don’t know either my tank has been repaired with a sponge yes a sponge and think it’s putty it’s also very rusty it’s in a workshop and guy wants 650 to clean and seal it I’m in Scotland that has really open up my options delighted thank you
Part numbers often alter the letters at the end as modified/uprated parts are developed over the lifetime of the production of the part. They can also denote colour in parts such as in primer or painted in whatever colour. If the numbers of the part are the same and the last two letters different then it is very likely going to fit. If you're unsure still, why not google image search each of the part numbers? This is an example........ 2003 100SSie
I have done that my tank ends DA but the tank I’m buying he does not know part number but looks identical also anyone any idea wheee I can find a video how to fit fuel pump etc inside the tank as mine has previously been taken out
Fuel tank repaired with a sponge?! Should be a criminal offence! Yes, to the best of my knowledge, any of the SSie tanks from 99 to 07 that look like yours will fit. If the tank is “bare” without pump or filler cap, they should have the chance to take decent pictures of the inside, I would try and get as much idea of how good or bad it is before buying as you will probably get stung for postage from NL so unlikely to return it.
Not sure of a video but I would say it is more or less “only one way to fit it” when you have it all in front of you. “Tea bag” strainer at the back of the tank, fuel pump clipped in, cannister filter clipped in, pipe to the feed to the outlet. The other two pipes are drains from the filler.
Yes honestly a sponge appalling what some people will do clearly have no morals but happy getting sorted now Thank you all so much was ready to scrap the bike this morning on the up getting it sorted now thank you amazing group of people not the best of bikes but I do love riding a old ducati
