2013 : WSBK & GP worries galore?

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by kope999R, Nov 30, 2012.

  1. I was giving reasons why the times of SBK and MotoGP are not comparable - the bikes are built with different limitations.

  2. Laverty best lap time was faster than Haydens best lap time, so a road bike you can buy can beat a works Moto gp Ducati lol ;)

  3. Motogp desperately needs to attract more teams, but with only two manufacturers sharing the title between them it's an impossible task. So the obvious thing to do is try to slow them down a bit to give smaller teams a chance. Only, the second you do that everyone starts moaning cos lesser classes are catching motogp up. It's a no-win situation for the organizers. Except now the motogp organizers are also the 'lesser' class organizers.

What to do? Slow down WSB, or give motogp it's head? I've never been a fan of control measures, but there's no denying it's worked in moto2 and moto3 - both are fantastic series'. But if you dumb down motogp then you've no choice but to dumb down WSB. So it boils down to this: if they want to keep motogp as a premier class they have to attract both teams and sponsors, and that means keeping WSB at a simmer in order not to steal the limelight - Either that or let motogp do it's own thing and plough their efforts into WSB.

For me, WSB was and is set up as a production-based class, so I'd be happy for the rules to bring them closer to production spec.

  4. My fear is that they eliminate one of the championships and i know which it would be. The current situation with Moto Gp is not good and unsustainable in the long term.

I happen to like having two opportunities to see world championship racing every year but like a lot of people i think the spectacle and draw of one of them has diminished recently to the point its not worth paying the money to go and watch it.

For the fans i think the current Dorna position will not be good but i also dont know what the answer is, i wish the organisers well.

  5. Which is why it has to change, why they're trying control measures, why they're trying to cut costs. Not very savoury perhaps, but necessary. But I don't think either series will die; whittling it down to one series doesn't make financial sense, but there needs to be a clear distinction between the two classes, so changes are coming, like it or not.

  6. IMHO, MotoGP should be no-holds barred. As many engines, as much fuel, whichever tyres you want. CC limits and the number of wheels should be the only rules. Maybe a minimum weight as well. MotoGP is supposed to be prototypes; cutting edge technology with radical ideas tried on the track to win each race.

I think Ducati would do much better under these rules than they can now.

What I find wrong is that nothing in WSB resembles the bikes you buy for the road, and it's supposed to be a production-based series. If anything the tight rules need to be applied to WSB as they are (should be) production machines that run more efficiently, with less fuel, sealed engine and engine numbers, and so on.

I think that Dorna holding the rights for both is a good thing because they can adjust the rules of both series to become better and more true to their intention, rather than trying to compete for viewing/grandstand figures against a rival series. Unfortunately I think the ethos of the rules are being applied to the series in the wrong way round!

  7. The problem with N H B is that eventually it will be 3 Honda's...

I think the Kawa with the headlight stickers did resemble the ZX10!

doesn't WSB as it is help come up with the tech develoment we finally find on our roadgoing bikes? Much more the Moto GP does?

  8. No, it doesn't. The tech feeds down from motogp, through wsb, bsb, et al until it hits the street. All the tech and the money is in the motogp class. So motogp should be a prototype class, right..?

Err..no. Grand prix - car or bike - never ever set out to be exclusive, it's just the way they ended up. It was the stopwatch that made all the difference in grand prix, same as it will in wsb. Simply racing each other went out with the Ark.
